Spain has a cost of living that is surprisingly low in comparison to other countries, making it an ideal destination for expats on a budget. For example, Granada is about one third cheaper than New York City and you won’t even need a car since there is great public transportation available at an affordable cost. Eating out also offers a great cost savings; typically you don’t need to add a tip for your meals and a good three-course meal with wine or beer can cost between $12 and $17.

There are also lots of free activities to enjoy in cities like Madrid that offer spectacular cultural experiences without breaking the bank – such as visiting parks and palaces or taking in some street performances.
