What is Tulum’s time zone?

Planning your holiday is exciting, and it’s important to know the time zone of your destination. If you’re considering a trip to Tulum, Mexico, keep in mind that Quintana Roo has recently transitioned from Central Standard Time (CST) to Eastern Standard Time (EST). It used to follow the Central time zone (zona centro) in Mexico but has officially converted to the Southeastern time zone (known as zona sureste).

How does daylight savings time affect time in Tulum?

Rather unusually, Tulum is not observing Daylight Savings Time in 2023. Depending on your location and the time of year, you may need to change your watch to accommodate the time difference when visiting Tulum. I am in the Central Standard Time zone, which is one hour behind Tulum. However, we observe Daylight Saving Time by setting our clocks ahead one hour every March 8th. This puts us in sync with Tulum until November when we set our clocks back one hour and Tulum becomes one hour ahead of us again.

Do Any Other Mexican States Observe EST?

No. It is worth noting that Quintana Roo is the only Mexican state that follows Eastern Standard Time (EST) all year round and does not observe Daylight Savings Time. Therefore, there are instances where Tulum’s timekeeping can be synchronized with some Central American states. It is not uncommon for this to occur.
