The Location

Wyndham Alltra Playa del Carmen has an excellent location just a few steps away from the beach and also one block away from Quinta Avenida. Quinta Avenida is Playa del Carmen’s main avenue, where you can find various restaurants, shops, and attractions. You can explore a lot of fun activities in Playa.

The Facilities

Wyndham Alltra is considered one of the top All Inclusive Resorts in Playa del Carmen, boasting a stunning oceanfront location and a freshwater swimming pool. The pool is conveniently located next to a bar where you can either fetch your drinks or have them delivered to you by the waitstaff. You can unwind in the cozy pool cabanas or sunbathe on the lounge chairs while sipping your beverage of choice.

Guests can enjoy complimentary use of pool loungers and umbrellas, but for an even better pool day experience, they can book a pool cabana for a cost of 45 USD per day. The pool

Personally, I recommend it for those planning to spend the whole day at the pool. Additionally, the rooftop offers a second swimming pool and hot tub for those who want to avoid the crowds.

Adjacent to it is the Off the Hook sushi bar where guests can also have a drink and sushi roll. The pool also has a magical ambiance during night time.

The resort offers a range of amenities including a fully-equipped fitness center, a spa with multiple available treatments, six restaurants, five bars and lounges, and venues for hosting special events, including wedding packages.

The Beach

A few years ago, a hurricane caused significant damage to the beach area of Alltra Wyndham Playa del Carmen and nearby resorts. However, a portion of the beach located towards the end of the resort is still available. Guests can access sun loungers, umbrellas, and Las Olas bar, which serves cocktails and other beverages. Additionally, guests have the option to reserve a beach cabana for the same price as a pool cabana.

When we went to the beach, we found that it was covered in sargassum, a type of seaweed that has become a problem in recent years due to climate change. This is not the hotel’s fault, as all beach hotels in the area are affected. Seaweed-free areas in Quintana Roo are limited to Isla Mujeres, Holbox, and some parts of Cozumel.

The seaweed appears between May-June and sticks around until September-October, so it’s something to consider when determining when to reserve your Playa del Carmen vacation.

The Rooms

At Wyndham Playa del Carmen in Mexico, there are 287 rooms divided into 4 categories: Standard Room, Junior Suite, Master Suite, and Master Premium Suite. The Standard Room can accommodate 4 people and has 2 double beds a semi-private terrace with dining furniture and an en-suite bathroom with toiletries.

The Junior Suite can accommodate up to 4 people and comes with a private balcony with furniture and floor-to-ceiling windows.

It can be booked with full or partial ocean views, beachfront walk-out, or city views. If you choose a room with beach access, you’ll also get to enjoy your own private beach cabana. We stayed in an Oceanview Junior Suite, which was just the right size for our needs. Despite having two balconies, the wind was too strong during our stay for us to make much use of them.

The Master Suite, on the other hand, is an oceanfront room that measures 1,020 square feet. It features a private balcony with outdoor furniture, a seating area, floor-to-ceiling windows and a spacious bedroom with a king-sized bed.

The biggest suite available is the Premium Suite, which features balconies located off both the bedroom and seating area, two bathrooms, and well-lit spacious rooms. Each of these suites can accommodate up to four people and includes access to a private beach cabana.

Restaurants and Dining

Off The Hook

The rooftop sushi bar offers a diverse range of sushi rolls to be relished by the poolside with a refreshing beverage, subject to good weather conditions, from 11 AM to 6 PM. It is an ideal place to have lunch or satisfy your sushi cravings in the mid-afternoon. It is not the average sushi experience provided by typical resorts; instead, it offers high-quality sushi. Additionally, you can request sashimi as well.

Bella

Bella is an Italian restaurant that offers traditional dishes, including seafood, meat, and pasta that are perfect for those who crave authentic Italian cuisine. They are open for dinner from 5 PM to 10 PM daily.

As an Italian, I’m always cautious about Italian restaurants abroad, especially since I haven’t been back to Italy in two years. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. The food was delicious, and the service was attentive. It felt like we were in a restaurant in Italy. I highly recommend trying the ravioli and appetizers.

Zarape

Zarape is a Mexican restaurant that serves traditional dishes such as guacamole, margaritas, tacos and more. A must-try item on their menu is the tostadas, and if you’re a meat-lover, go for the “molcajete” which includes a variety of meats and veggies. Zarape is open for dinner from 5PM to 10 PM.

Brasas

Brasas offers a modern take on traditional Mexican dishes that are grilled to perfection and served straight to your plate. Their specialties include grilled meats and other delicious options. You can find them on the ground floor of the resort, open from 6 PM to 10 PM for dinner.

Ventanas

At Ventanas, you can have most of your breakfast and lunches at their buffet restaurant that offers different cuisines such as Mexican, grilled corner, sushi, Italian, and more. The buffet provides great quality and variety, especially for breakfast. The juice bar is impressive, with over 10 different types of juices and smoothies available, and they also offer customized juice upon request.

Cafe Mexico

The coffee bar offers unlimited refills throughout the day. They serve a variety of coffee options, from simple black coffee to intricate blends that you can savor by the bar, pool, or in a cozy cabana with a good book. Additionally, they have dairy-free options available, such as my personal favorite – an oat milk caramel macchiato!

La Pizzeria & Quick Delights

If you need a quick bite to eat, head over to La Pizzeria located by the pool. They offer a variety of fresh pizzas. Alternatively, there is a lounge called Quick Delights that is open 24/7. They serve soft drinks, sandwiches, sushi, fruit, and a few healthy options.

Las Olas Bar

At Las Olas, you can enjoy refreshing drinks such as creative cocktails and margaritas throughout the day while you relax by the beach or take breaks between swims.

Kaa Bar & Lounge

Kaa Bar is a lively bar located in the hotel lobby. It offers all-day drinks from 11 AM to midnight and live music. Whether you’re craving a breakfast mimosa, an afternoon cocktail, or an aperitivo, Kaa Bar has got you covered.

The Spa

At Aura Spa, you can indulge in body wraps, scrubs, massages, beauty treatments, and the hydrotherapy circuit. The circuit features a sauna, outdoor tub, and steam bath that will detoxify and rejuvenate your body. The spa also offers prenatal massages, reflexology, and couples’ experiences. If you book a treatment or massage, you’ll have free access to the hydrotherapy area for two days. Otherwise, you can pay a small fee to access the area for your entire stay. It’s a great activity to do on a rainy day!

Things to do

At Wyndham Alltra All-Inclusive in Playa del Carmen, there are various activities available for you to enjoy. You can start your day with a burst of energy by exercising with a personal trainer or attending a yoga class. Additionally, you can participate in water activities such as aqua aerobics and kayaking.

During our stay, we tried a morning yoga class, which Fran, who had no prior yoga experience, thoroughly enjoyed. The class accommodates individuals of all levels, so every exercise can be customized to suit your fitness level.

At the Playa del Carmen all-inclusive resort, you can expect to enjoy games, live entertainment in the evenings, and local excursions to explore the area. However, due to bad weather, outdoor shows couldn’t take place during our stay. Nevertheless, they arranged indoor shows like the circus and a jazz player to make up for it. Furthermore, we participated in day activities such as a guacamole-making competition and a juicing class.

Prices

The starting rate for two adults at the Wyndham Resort in Playa del Carmen is $220 per night. However, the rates may change depending on availability and the season of your visit.

What is an All Inclusive Resort in Playa Del Carmen

At this Playa del Carmen All Inclusive Resort, you won’t have to pay for any food or drinks. Additionally, you can enjoy 24-hour room service and have your breakfast or a late-night snack on the terrace or in bed, so there’s no need to go out for dinner or a snack in town.

At Wyndham Alltra Playa del Carmen, you can enjoy evening entertainment, swim in ocean-view pools with waiter service, and participate in themed dinners or cooking classes. The resort offers top-notch service, which we found to be the best we’ve ever experienced in this region.

This resort in Playa del Carmen was previously called the Panama Jack Resort, but it is now part of Wyndham’s Alltra brand, which is a new upper-midscale segment brand. Currently, this resort and the Wyndham Alltra Cancun are the only two hotels within this brand. During our last trip to Mexico, we also visited the Wyndham Alltra Cancun.

Traveling to 🇲🇽 Mexico soon?

I recommend these travel resources for Mexico that I personally use:

🏨 Hotels: I have found that Expedia and Booking.com consistently have the best deals on hotels and resorts in Mexico. If you prefer to stay at a vacation rental, check VRBO that is usually cheaper than AirBnB’s added fees!

✈️ Flights: To find the best flight deals to Mexico, I always use Kayak. Remember to subscribe to their price alerts for the travel dates you want. Another great alternative for flight deals is Expedia.

🚗 Rental Cars: I always use and highly recommend Discover Cars because it allows me to compare several car rental companies and view ratings on various factors such as overall value, pick-up procedure, agent efficiency, car condition, and total time taken.

🚙 Cancun Airport Transportation: For the fastest and easiest way to travel, I suggest arranging a private transfer with Cancun Airport Transportation. Honestly, no better way to travel from the airport to your hotel or resort.

🤿 Tours & Activities: For tours and activities in Mexico, I highly recommend using either Viator or GetYourGuide. These websites offer a full refund if you cancel your booking 24 hours before the start of the tour, and they also provide excellent customer service in case of any issues.

🚨 Travel Insurance: I always suggest purchasing travel insurance as a precaution before traveling, especially after a recent accident in a taxi in Mexico. For short trips, I recommend Travel Insurance Master, whereas for digital nomads, Safety Wing is a better option.

📷 Best Camera for your trip: I always carry with me a GoPro, It’s light, compact, takes great video and pictures, and most importantly, it’s waterproof! You just can’t go wrong with one. If you are interested in higher quality video and photography, I always carry with me on my trips and highly recommend the Sony A7IV which I think is the best travel DSLR Camera out there.

☀️ Biodegradable Sunscreen: Remember to include a good sunscreen to protect yourself from the summer sun. I always use and suggest Sun Bum Sunscreen, which is vegan, reef-friendly, and cruelty-free.
