The Location
Wyndham Alltra Playa del Carmen is conveniently located just a few steps away from the beach and also one block away from Quinta Avenida, which is the main avenue of Playa del Carmen. The Pool
Wyndham Alltra is one of the top All Inclusive Resorts in Playa del Carmen that boasts a stunning oceanfront and a freshwater swimming pool with a bar next to it. You can choose to get your drinks and beer yourself or have them served to you by the waiters while you unwind in the cozy pool cabanas or sunbathe on the loungers.
Guests can use pool loungers and umbrellas for free. However, booking a pool cabana costs 45 USD per day, and includes a bottle of sparkling wine and drink service. If you plan on spending the whole day at the pool, it’s worth considering. Additionally, the pool is more magical at night.
There rooftop area with a second swimming pool and hot tub. It’s a good place to avoid the crowds. Additionally, you can enjoy a drink and a sushi roll at the Off the Hook sushi bar nearby.
The Beach
A few years ago, a hurricane caused significant erosion to the beach area of Alltra Wyndham Playa del Carmen and the nearby resorts. Despite this, there is still a portion of the beach at the end of the resort that has sun loungers, umbrellas, and a bar called Las Olas. Guests can enjoy cocktails and other drinks there.
Guests have the option to book a beach cabana for the same price as a pool cabana. However, during our visit, the beach was affected by sargassum, a type of seaweed that has become a widespread problem in the region due to climate change. It is important to note that this issue is not unique to the hotel and all beach hotels in the area are experiencing the same problem. The only areas in Quintana Roo unaffected by seaweed are Isla Mujeres, Cancun, and certain parts of Cozumel.
When planning your trip to Playa del Carmen, remember that seaweed is present from May to June until September to October.
The Rooms
The Wyndham Playa del Carmen in Mexico has 287 rooms categorized into 4 types – Standard Room, Junior Suite, Master Suite, and Master Premium Suite. The Standard Room can accommodate up to 4 people, equipped with 2 double beds, a private bathroom with toiletries, and a semi-private terrace with outdoor dining furniture. The Junior Suite is available with full or partial ocean views, city views, or beachfront walk-out.
The rooms can hold up to four people in king-sized beds and feature a private balcony with furniture and floor-to-ceiling windows. If you book a room with beach access, you will also have access to your own exclusive beach cabana.
The Oceanview Junior Suite was just the right size for us. Although we had two balconies, the wind was so strong that we couldn’t enjoy them very much.
Our oceanfront hotel offers two types of suites: the Master Suite and the Premium Suite. The Master Suite has a private balcony with outdoor furniture, floor-to-ceiling windows, a seating area, and a spacious bedroom with a king-sized bed. The Premium Suite is even larger and features balconies off both the bedroom and the seating area, two bathrooms, and well-lit, spacious rooms. Both suites can accommodate up to 4 people and include an exclusive beach cabana.

It’s an ideal place for lunch or to satisfy your sushi craving in the mid-afternoon. The sushi provided is of excellent quality and isn’t like the ordinary sushi provided by other resorts. Additionally, you may request for sashimi as well.

Their must-try dishes include the tostadas and the “molcajete”, a meat and vegetable dish. The restaurant is open for dinner from 5 PM to 10 PM.
- Brasas: Brasas is a restaurant located on the ground floor of the resort that offers grilled meats and other traditional Mexican dishes with a modern twist. - Ventanas: At Ventanas, you can enjoy most of your breakfasts and lunches at the buffet restaurant. They offer a wide variety of cuisines, such as Mexican, grilled dishes, sushi, Italian and more. Despite being a buffet, the quality and variety are excellent. You shouldn’t miss their breakfast as they offer a wide selection of dishes to try. The juice bar is amazing too, with over 10 types of juices and smoothies. You can even request a custom-made juice to suit your preferences.
- Cafe Mexico: You can get unlimited refills on your coffee at this coffee bar. They offer a variety of coffee options for you to enjoy at the bar, by the pool, or in a cozy cabana with a book. Additionally, they also provide dairy-free options. I personally enjoyed drinking an oat milk caramel macchiato there!
- La Pizzeria & Quick Delights: If you’re looking for a quick snack or lunch, check out La Pizzeria by the pool. They offer fresh pizza in different varieties. Another option is Quick Delights lounge which serves soft drinks, sandwiches, sushi, fruit, and other healthy options. This place is open 24/7, so you can grab a bite even in the middle of the night or after a night out.

The resort offers a wide range of amenities, such as a fitness center and spa that provides various treatments, six restaurants, five bars and lounges. Additionally, they have event spaces available for celebrations and wedding packages.
At Aura Spa, you can indulge in a range of beauty treatments, body wraps and scrubs, as well as massages. The spa also offers a hydrotherapy circuit featuring a sauna, outdoor tub, and steam bath that can help to revitalize and purify your body.
The spa offers prenatal massages, reflexology, and couples’ experiences in addition to other services. Every booking comes with a complimentary two-day use of the hydrotherapy area for treatments or massages. Alternatively, you can pay a small fee to use the hydrotherapy area for your entire stay. This activity is a great option for a rainy day!
