The Atmosphere

The Wyndham Alltra Cancun is an all-inclusive hotel that was previously called Panama Jack Cancun Resorts. It is now part of Wyndham’s new brand, Alltra, which is aimed at all types of travelers and designed to be an upper-midscale option.

Alltra is a newly inaugurated resort that offers great value for its top-notch services. Currently, they only have two resorts, one being the resort we visited and the other being Wyndham Alltra Playa del Carmen, both located in Mexico.

The All-Inclusive hotel in Cancun includes all meals and drinks, and even provides room service for breakfast, snacks, or dinner to be delivered to your suite. This allows you to enjoy your meal outside on your terrace or in bed with a cup of fresh coffee if you prefer not to go to the buffet. Although we aimed to try all of the restaurants/food stands, we did order breakfast once and were impressed with the generous spread that was served with a larger table provided for our comfort.

This Cancun resort is perfect for families as it offers kids and teens clubs, two swimming pools, and 7 on-site restaurants that you can enjoy during your stay. You’ll also have access to daily and nightly entertainment, health & wellness activities, and waiter service in the pool and on the beach.

The Beach

The best thing about Wyndham Alltra Cancun is their private beach, which has sun loungers and cabanas. The beach has white, powdery sand, and the water has a beautiful color. The sunset in Cancun is amazing. If you make a dinner reservation later in the evening, you can enjoy the magical sunset at the beach, which is definitely worth it.

All guests can use the sun loungers and umbrellas on a first-come-first-served basis, while the cabanas are available at an additional cost. I suggest reserving a cabana in advance, especially if you’re visiting during the high season. It costs approximately 60 USD to reserve a cabana for a full day, which includes a cooler filled with soft drinks and beer, a bottle of sparkling wine, and dedicated beverage service.

Booking a cabana on a sunny day was such a lucky decision. It was great to relax on the comfortable mattress. Additionally, cabanas provide access to less crowded areas of the beach compared to the section with sun loungers.

The resort also features other amenities, such as a fitness center, full-service spa, multiple dining options, live entertainment every evening, and spaces suitable for weddings and other special events.

The Standard Room can accommodate up to 4 people and includes 2 king or double beds, an en-suite bathroom with toiletries, a seating area with table and chairs, and a minibar. Guests staying in the suite also have access to the Alltra VIP Lounge. The suite can accommodate up to four people, with a king-sized bed and sleeper sofa.

Restaurants and Bars

Viaggio is an Italian restaurant that offers delicious traditional pasta dishes, as well as various options for meat and seafood. It is open from 6 PM to 10:30 PM. During our visit, the staff pleasantly surprised us with a table set up in the restaurant’s wine cellar, which made for a romantic atmosphere. I ordered the gnocchi with gorgonzola and it was absolutely delicious.

At Sunset is a restaurant with healthy and international food options, including salads, grilled salmon, and poke bowls. If you make a dinner reservation, you can sit on the beautiful terrace and enjoy the sunset over the lagoon. Don’t forget to try their delicious cocktails. The restaurant is open from 5 PM to 10.30 PM.

Salsa is a taco bar located on the beach, where you can grab a quick bite of tasty tacos before, after, or during your beach activities.

I conducted a self-guided tour in Cancun to explore and identify the best taco joints in the city for an upcoming article. I highly recommend trying the Quesabirria (a quesadilla with stew meat) and the mushroom tacos as they were some of the finest tacos we had during the tour. Casa de Rosa is an excellent restaurant that serves authentic Mexican cuisine and has a beautiful hacienda décor. It offers delicious local flavors and is open for dinner from 5PM to 10.3 PM.

The appetizer tostadas are delicious, and it’s recommended to pair them with a margarita. Don’t leave without trying the traditional dish “molcajete” which includes various types of meat and vegetables. Azul is a waterfront restaurant that serves Asian cuisine and local dishes with beautiful beach views. They serve breakfast in the morning and dinner at 6 PM.

You can find Kaa Bar in the lobby, and they offer daily live music, a lounge to relax in, and a large drinks menu. They are open from 11AM to midnight. Las Olas is a beachside bar that serves all kinds of drinks, including simple beer and elaborate cocktails. You can enjoy your drinks in a beach cabana or lounger while watching the sea. They open at 10AM and close at 6.30PM.

The Alltra VIP Lounge is located on the 6th floor and is open from 10AM to 10 PM. It offers an open bar, snacks, and a selection of hors d’oeuvres. The lounge is exclusive to selected suites, making it a peaceful place to unwind or work. Patricio is a great bartender who serves impressive cocktails. If you have access to the lounge, be sure to come and try his cocktails as premium spirits are only available here.

Things to do

The all-inclusive resort in Cancun offers numerous activities for families, couples, and individuals including live entertainment, water sports, and wellness practices. The hotel hosts nightly performances, themed parties, and music. It also offers exercise classes like Zumba, Aqua Aerobics, fitness lessons, and beach sports like volleyball and soccer. Other fun activities include wine and tequila tastings, yoga, and participating in the turtle release program (available from August to November).

The Spa

Aura Spa has a beauty salon that offers various skin and style treatments. Moreover, they provide many massages, therapies, and body rituals that aim to relax your body, mind, and soul. We chose to have a beach Swedish massage, which was an excellent decision. It is more enjoyable to have a massage while listening to the sound of waves instead of a standard massage room. Even though we visited during the hottest month, it was still comfortable for us.

All guests can use the spa’s hydrotherapy circuit for free. It features an outdoor tub, a sauna, and a steam bath that can detoxify and rejuvenate your body. Make sure to reserve the hot tub to have it for yourself and avoid sharing with others.

Traveling to 🇲🇽 Mexico soon?

I recommend these travel resources for Mexico that I personally use:

🏨 Hotels: I have found that Expedia and Booking.com consistently have the best deals on hotels and resorts in Mexico. If you prefer to stay at a vacation rental, check VRBO that is usually cheaper than AirBnB’s added fees!

✈️ Flights: To find the best flight deals to Mexico, I always use Kayak. Remember to subscribe to their price alerts for the travel dates you want. Another great alternative for flight deals is Expedia.

🚗 Rental Cars: I always use and highly recommend Discover Cars because it allows me to compare several car rental companies and view ratings on various factors such as overall value, pick-up procedure, agent efficiency, car condition, and total time taken.

🚙 Cancun Airport Transportation: For the fastest and easiest way to travel, I suggest arranging a private transfer with Cancun Airport Transportation. Honestly, no better way to travel from the airport to your hotel or resort.

🤿 Tours & Activities: For tours and activities in Mexico, I highly recommend using either Viator or GetYourGuide. These websites offer a full refund if you cancel your booking 24 hours before the start of the tour, and they also provide excellent customer service in case of any issues.

🚨 Travel Insurance: I always suggest purchasing travel insurance as a precaution before traveling, especially after a recent accident in a taxi in Mexico. For short trips, I recommend Travel Insurance Master, whereas for digital nomads, Safety Wing is a better option.

📷 Best Camera for your trip: I always carry with me a GoPro, It’s light, compact, takes great video and pictures, and most importantly, it’s waterproof! You just can’t go wrong with one. If you are interested in higher quality video and photography, I always carry with me on my trips and highly recommend the Sony A7IV which I think is the best travel DSLR Camera out there.

☀️ Biodegradable Sunscreen: Remember to include a good sunscreen to protect yourself from the summer sun. I always use and suggest Sun Bum Sunscreen, which is vegan, reef-friendly, and cruelty-free.
