Aldea Zama Tulum Guide
Where is Tulum? Tulum is a beautiful town washed by the turquoise waters of the Caribbean. It is located in the Yucatán Peninsula, in Mexico, and many consider the town to be a more authentic and quiet alternative to its world-famous neighbor – Cancun.
Tulum was once a popular hippie destination. Today the hippies have been replaced by celebrities and trendy boho chic travelers from all over the world.
They all come to Tulum for its crystal clear waters, ivory sand beaches, captivating cenotes, up-and-coming culinary scene, vibrant clubs and parties, and its eco-conscious yet luxurious hotels and resorts. The waters around Tulum and the coral reefs are also a magnet for scuba divers from all over the world.
There is no bad time to visit Tulum, but you can find out what our favorite times of the year to visit Tulum.
Now almost every first-time visitor in Tulum is trying to figure out whether to stay in Tulum Beach to Tulum Town (Pueblo), which is a couple of miles off the beach. The Beach is home to expensive hotels and fine dining, while the Pueblo has a more authentic feel with affordable accommodation and casual dining.
There is, though, a third and exciting new option in Aldea Zama. Aldea Zama is an upcoming neighborhood in Tulum. It has been developed through some big luxury apartment construction projects in the last few years and we are here to tell you everything that you need to know about this really beautiful and newly developed area of Tulum.
Aldea Zama zone in Tulum has come to life very recently. It is an upscale residential development area located less than a mile south from Tulum’s Town Center (Pueblo) – halfway between the center of the Pueblo and the Beach. The neighborhood has brand new and modern large homes with plenty of luxury amenities.
And if you are looking for a more quiet and private alternative to Tulum Beach and Town, Aldea Zama is your best bet for a secluded yet incredible vacation.
This is a very peaceful suburban neighborhood. It is also home to the largest expat community in Tulum and one of the safest neighborhoods in Tulum.
Aldea Zama also has a growing number of luxury private villas, rental homes (Airbnb and Vrbo), mid-range affordable hotels and restaurants, and cute small shops and cafes.
Aldea Zama’s location is pretty ideal as the Mayan ruins, beach, Sian Ka’an national park and Tulum Town are just a short drive or bike ride away from this zone.
We absolutely love Aldea Zama. It is an everchanging and developing part of Tulum and it is ideal for those who are looking for a more private and quiet type of vacation in large houses with great amenities.
I recommend these travel resources for Mexico that I personally use:
🏨 Hotels: I have found that Expedia and Booking.com consistently have the best deals on hotels and resorts in Mexico. If you prefer to stay at a vacation rental, check VRBO that is usually cheaper than AirBnB’s added fees!
✈️ Flights: To find the best flight deals to Mexico, I always use Kayak. Remember to subscribe to their price alerts for the travel dates you want. Another great alternative for flight deals is Expedia.
🚗 Rental Cars: I always use and highly recommend Discover Cars because it allows me to compare several car rental companies and view ratings on various factors such as overall value, pick-up procedure, agent efficiency, car condition, and total time taken.
🚙 Cancun Airport Transportation: For the fastest and easiest way to travel, I suggest arranging a private transfer with Cancun Airport Transportation. Honestly, no better way to travel from the airport to your hotel or resort.
🤿 Tours & Activities: For tours and activities in Mexico, I highly recommend using either Viator or GetYourGuide. These websites offer a full refund if you cancel your booking 24 hours before the start of the tour, and they also provide excellent customer service in case of any issues.
🚨 Travel Insurance: I always suggest purchasing travel insurance as a precaution before traveling, especially after a recent accident in a taxi in Mexico. For short trips, I recommend Travel Insurance Master, whereas for digital nomads, Safety Wing is a better option.
📷 Best Camera for your trip: I always carry with me a GoPro, It’s light, compact, takes great video and pictures, and most importantly, it’s waterproof! You just can’t go wrong with one. If you are interested in higher quality video and photography, I always carry with me on my trips and highly recommend the Sony A7IV which I think is the best travel DSLR Camera out there.
☀️ Biodegradable Sunscreen: Remember to include a good sunscreen to protect yourself from the summer sun. I always use and suggest Sun Bum Sunscreen, which is vegan, reef-friendly, and cruelty-free.
