Platys Gialos is a great beach option for families with kids in Mykonos. It’s conveniently located about a 10-15 minute drive from Mykonos town and has a good selection of hotels and restaurants. The water here is shallow and crystal clear, making it an ideal spot for children. Additionally, Platys Gialos is protected from the strong Meltemi winds, which makes for a more comfortable beach experience.

Agios Ioannis Beach

Shirley Valentine, a romantic comedy film, was shot at Agios Ioannis beach. It is named after a chapel called Saint John (Agios Ioannis) that overlooks the bay. This beach is sandy and provides water sports opportunities that older children enjoy. Agios Ioannis is a well-organized beach, but it tends to get crowded. The beach has some rocky areas that make it suitable for snorkeling. It is possible to reach Ornos Beach on foot from Agios Ioannis.

Kalo Livadi Beach

Kalo Livadi is a popular beach on Mykonos Island, especially among families. While it has a lively atmosphere, it is less party-oriented than Super Paradise. Families appreciate Kalo Livadi because of its shallow waters, fine sand, and great beach bars and restaurants. If you’re a parent who enjoys vibrant beaches, this is a great spot to visit.

Ornos Beach

The question of whether Ornos Beach is suitable for families remains debatable. It all depends on your preferences. If you are looking for a lively beach with loud music and a variety of stylish beachfront bars and restaurants, then Ornos could be the perfect choice for your family. This is true, especially if you have teenagers who will appreciate the youthful atmosphere.

Kalafatis Beach

Compared to Ornos Beach, Kalafatis is a quieter option for families even though it still has water sports facilities, sunbeds, bars, and restaurants. The beach is long and has crystal clear waters, as well as ample parking. Getting into the water may be challenging due to the rocky bottom, but once you’re in, the bottom becomes sandy and feels nice. If you have sensitive feet, consider getting water shoes for the beach, as the sand is made up of small pebbles rather than fine sand. This is an excellent spot for families looking for a peaceful beach experience without the distraction of loud music from nearby restaurants like you might find on other beaches in Mykonos.

Psarou Beach

Psarou is another beach like Ornos, known for attracting partygoers who enjoy upscale hotels, trendy bars and restaurants, and expensive yachts. It’s a popular spot for teenagers looking for a fun atmosphere. However, Psarou is also a great option for those who want to spend the day at an organized, cosmopolitan beach and dine at one of the local restaurants. The shallow waters make it a safe and protected beach. One notable feature is its white sand that is mixed with small, colorful pebbles.

Agia Anna Beach

There are two beaches named Agia Anna in Mykonos. We suggest that you go to Agia Anna Beach, which is just a few minutes walk from Platys Gialos and a 5-minute walk from Paraga. This beach has shallow waters, making it ideal for kids. Although it is small, it is well-organized. It is advisable to get there early since it gets crowded quickly. Once you are there, we recommend having lunch at Nikolas Taverna.

Elia Beach

Elia Beach is a well-known family-friendly beach on the southeast side of Mykonos, featuring white sand and crystal-clear waters. It’s around a 25-minute drive from Mykonos town and has several reasonably-priced restaurants. The beach is also LGBTQ+ friendly. However, keep in mind that the area can get windy, so it’s a good idea to check the weather before visiting with your family.

Agrari Beach

Agrari Beach is a popular choice among Mykonos locals for family outings. It is a serene beach with a small affordable restaurant, ideal for families. The beach is quite LGBTQ+ friendly, much like Elia, and it has a designated nudist section. Agrari sports a long stretch of sandy beach, which is more crowded on one side, with umbrellas and sunbeds, and undeveloped on the other, with only sand. The beach is just a 25-minute drive away from Mykonos town.

Traveling to 🇬🇷 Greece soon?

I recommend these travel resources for Greece that I personally use:

🏨 Hotels: I have found that Expedia and Booking.com consistently have the best deals on hotels and resorts in Greece. If you prefer to stay at a vacation rental, check VRBO that is usually cheaper than AirBnB’s added fees!

✈️ Flights: To find the best flight deals to Greece, I always use Kayak. Remember to subscribe to their price alerts for the travel dates you want. Another great alternative for flight deals is Expedia.

🚗 Rental Cars: I always use and highly recommend Discover Cars because it allows me to compare several car rental companies and view ratings on various factors such as overall value, pick-up procedure, agent efficiency, car condition, and total time taken.

🚙 Airport Transportation: For the fastest and easiest way to travel, I suggest arranging a private transfer from the airport and beetween destinations with Welcome Pickups. Honestly, no better way to travel from the airport to your hotel or resort.

🤿 Tours & Activities: For tours and activities in Greece, I highly recommend using either Viator or GetYourGuide. These websites offer a full refund if you cancel your booking 24 hours before the start of the tour, and they also provide excellent customer service in case of any issues.

🚨 Travel Insurance: I always suggest purchasing travel insurance as a precaution before traveling, especially after a recent accident in a taxi in Greece. For short trips, I recommend Travel Insurance Master, whereas for digital nomads, Safety Wing is a better option.

📷 Best Camera for your trip: I always carry with me a GoPro, It’s light, compact, takes great video and pictures, and most importantly, it’s waterproof! You just can’t go wrong with one. If you are interested in higher quality video and photography, I always carry with me on my trips and highly recommend the Sony A7IV which I think is the best travel DSLR Camera out there.

☀️ Biodegradable Sunscreen: Remember to include a good sunscreen to protect yourself from the summer sun. I always use and suggest Sun Bum Sunscreen, which is vegan, reef-friendly, and cruelty-free.

This island welcomes kids as well. Despite the common belief that Mykonos, Greece, is solely meant for partygoers and younger crowds, families with children can also enjoy the destination.

For a family-friendly experience in Mykonos, head to the beaches on the west side of the south coast – Ornos, Platis Gialos, and Psarou. These beaches have great sand, excellent swimming, and a wide selection of dining options available throughout the day. Additionally, you can enjoy a peaceful experience without the noise and crowds of the party locations or adult-themed beaches in Mykonos Town.

If you’re planning a family beach vacation to Greece, Mykonos would be a better choice over Santorini, as most of the beaches in Santorini have pebbles, which can make it uncomfortable without water shoes. However, overall, Santorini is also suitable for kids.
