Saint John Hotel Villas & Spa - An Honest Review

Table of Contents

The Ambience

The Mykonos-style decor includes large open spaces featuring stone walls and a color scheme of blue and white.

Saint John Hotel Villas & Spa has spacious areas decorated with classical references to Mykonos. The hotel is in excellent condition and has an elegant design that attracts young couples and families with children.

The lobby’s calm atmosphere is enhanced by its gold and white tones. In addition, the hotel has modern touches like cool marble floors and a white tree located in an atrium underneath a solar panel. Accessing the beach may be difficult for some guests because the resort is situated on a steep cliff.

However, there is a minibus provided by the hotel for transport. Sunbeds are available near the pools and on the beach but must be claimed early. The pool bar serves scrumptious salads and kebabs for lunch.

Guests can also take the shuttle to Mykonos Town for a night on the town at an extra cost.

The Location

The property is situated in a peaceful and secluded area of Mykonos atop a steep cliff overlooking the water.

The Saint John Hotel Villas & Spa is situated in a peaceful and picturesque area of Mykonos on St. John Hill. It is located amidst fields and the sea on a bluff which offers breathtaking views but may be difficult for pedestrians to get around.

To make it convenient for guests, the hotel provides a mini-van shuttle service. There are limited attractions and nightlife options in the immediate vicinity, but Mykonos Town is just two miles away. The resort is situated approximately two miles away from the remarkable Delos Island ruins. Visiting this place is an excellent way to take a break from the beach.

Similarly, the Panayia Tourliani Monastery, which comprises a beautiful church and grounds, is also located at about the same distance from the hotel.

The Rooms

Spacious, upscale rooms are filled with white tones and sunlight and offer nice views.

The resort has different types of accommodations, including rooms and private villas. The color scheme of the resort is mainly white, which is typical of Greek island resorts. The rooms are spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated with marble tile floors, bed drapery, wicker furniture, and accents of red or yellow.

The bathrooms have standard amenities such as hairdryers, shaving kits, sewing kits, vanity kits, and lotions. Some rooms have jetted tubs, and some beds are made up of two smaller beds pushed together.

Sofa beds are available in certain rooms. Each room is furnished with a flat-screen TV, and some even come with a DVD/VCR player. Additionally, coffeemakers and minibars stocked with treats are provided. The air-conditioners operate quietly to keep the rooms cool.

However, one of the best ways to enjoy the island ambiance is by leaving the terrace doors open and letting the tranquil sound of the water lull you to sleep. All rooms feature balconies, with many offering a view of the sea.

Features

This resort features a scenic beach, three restaurants conveniently located on the premises, both indoor and outdoor pools (including one especially for children), and even an outdoor tennis court.

The property has three restaurants – Kalimera, Symposium, and 7th Heaven, as well as a beautiful beach that is quite narrow and rocky.

Guests can enjoy several amenities without leaving the property, including indoor and outdoor pools, a children’s pool, and a saltwater pool that allows for effortless floating. Freshwater showers are provided to rinse off the salt.

The health club has a few treadmills and enough strength training equipment for a decent workout, and the spa offers a variety of massages. The resort offers on-site tennis and is located near various water sports activities.

Additionally, guests can rent a car on-site, park for free, and use the resort’s shuttle service. Meeting facilities with audio-visual capabilities, a business center, and high-speed Wi-Fi are also available for a fee. The shuttle can also take guests into Mykonos Town for a small charge.

Bottom Line

The Saint John Hotel Villas & Spa is a luxurious resort that offers a range of services. The hotel is situated on a bluff that overlooks the water and is located about two miles away from the town of Mykonos and the airport.

It has a peaceful and calming atmosphere and provides guests with access to a private beach, indoor and outdoor pools that are trendy and stylish. The hotel mainly caters to couples and families with children, as it has separate swimming pools for adults and kids.

Additionally, it also has conference rooms for business travelers and events. The hotel’s pools have unique design features, such as a step bridge. Rooms are outfitted in white decor and are spacious with breathtaking views. It’s an ideal scenic island retreat, though somewhat isolated.

At the same time, it feels as if everything has been taken care of to the point that guests don’t really need to leave the property unless they want to explore other parts of the island. As the surrounding area is hilly, the hotel provides a minivan to shuttle guests around. There’s a currency exchange, car rental, gift shop, laundry service, and hairdresser on-site. There’s also an outdoor tennis court.

Traveling to 🇬🇷 Greece soon?

I recommend these travel resources for Greece that I personally use:

🏨 Hotels: I have found that Expedia and Booking.com consistently have the best deals on hotels and resorts in Greece. If you prefer to stay at a vacation rental, check VRBO that is usually cheaper than AirBnB’s added fees!

✈️ Flights: To find the best flight deals to Greece, I always use Kayak. Remember to subscribe to their price alerts for the travel dates you want. Another great alternative for flight deals is Expedia.

🚗 Rental Cars: I always use and highly recommend Discover Cars because it allows me to compare several car rental companies and view ratings on various factors such as overall value, pick-up procedure, agent efficiency, car condition, and total time taken.

🚙 Airport Transportation: For the fastest and easiest way to travel, I suggest arranging a private transfer from the airport and beetween destinations with Welcome Pickups. Honestly, no better way to travel from the airport to your hotel or resort.

🤿 Tours & Activities: For tours and activities in Greece, I highly recommend using either Viator or GetYourGuide. These websites offer a full refund if you cancel your booking 24 hours before the start of the tour, and they also provide excellent customer service in case of any issues.

🚨 Travel Insurance: I always suggest purchasing travel insurance as a precaution before traveling, especially after a recent accident in a taxi in Greece. For short trips, I recommend Travel Insurance Master, whereas for digital nomads, Safety Wing is a better option.

📷 Best Camera for your trip: I always carry with me a GoPro, It’s light, compact, takes great video and pictures, and most importantly, it’s waterproof! You just can’t go wrong with one. If you are interested in higher quality video and photography, I always carry with me on my trips and highly recommend the Sony A7IV which I think is the best travel DSLR Camera out there.

☀️ Biodegradable Sunscreen: Remember to include a good sunscreen to protect yourself from the summer sun. I always use and suggest Sun Bum Sunscreen, which is vegan, reef-friendly, and cruelty-free.
