Cancun is renowned for its plethora of beautiful beaches, and Playa Delfines stands out among the rest. In this post, we will explore more about this stunning destination in all its glory!
Playa Delfines (Delfines Beach) Cancun
Before you embark on this stunning beach, you must arm yourself with food supplies, as there are no stores or restaurants nearby to buy food from. Fear not, though; if your bag of snacks runs dry, street vendors offer a variety of tasty treats such as stuffed shrimp, kibis, and meatballs!
Playa Delfines, nicknamed El Mirador (The Lookout) due to the picturesque wooden lookout providing breathtaking views of Cancun and its surf, is an ideal spot for a selfie. Not only will you be able to admire the stunning beach backdrop but also take in colorful letters that spell out “CANCUN”.
With the presence of lifeguards, you can rest assured that your family is safe and secure at this beach. The waves are usually quite mild; however during certain months, there may be a greater swell, so it’s best to keep kids away from the shoreline as an extra precautionary measure.
With its free entrance fee and 24/7 accessibility, this beach is perfect for those on a budget yet still wishing to stay connected with WiFi access in designated zones.
Enjoy a relaxing holiday with your family, friends or loved one at this stunning, pristine beach. It provides all the necessary amenities, such as parking lots and public toilets, while also offering showers, palapas, and ramps to ensure everyone’s comfort. Conveniently located near hotels too!
For an unforgettable vacation experience, Playa Delfines is the perfect spot to bask in brilliant sunshine and peaceful waves. Its namesake promises some extraordinary experiences; each morning you can witness dolphins swimming toward the Caribbean Sea! Even if you don’t see them during your stay, there are tours that give you a chance to get up close and personal with these beautiful aquatic animals.
Plus, this beach is home to a nest of sea turtles – an incredible show you can witness at night or early in the morning. Witnessing nature unfolding like this offers one of the city’s most memorable experiences!
Enjoy the complimentary palapas with their thatched roofs and plenty of shade they provide. The toilets are spotless, and there is a playground for children to enjoy as well.
Refreshing beverages can be purchased from local vendors who also offer up Mexican street food like tacos and fried kibis or fish in banana leaves; all guaranteed to satisfy your taste buds!

Plunge into the crystal clear waters, swim beneath watchful lifeguards’ eyes, or take advantage of surfing on the moderate waves – whatever strikes your fancy! There may not be any restaurants here but you will not go hungry with these delicious choices available nearby.
How much does it cost to go to Playa Delfines?
Playa Delfines is a public beach with free admittance, bathrooms, showers, and even small palapas. The only money you’ll need to spend during your visit is on the transportation service (which can be both private or public) as well as any extra activities like jet skiing that you may choose to partake in while there.
Additionally, if you plan on bringing food or drinks from home or purchasing them from local stores/street vendors, those will also cost extra. Despite these potential incidental expenses, though, the maximum amount of money anyone needs to bring when visiting this remarkable beach won’t exceed $10 USD!
Where is Dolphin Beach?
Not too many years ago, Dolphin Beach at km 18 of Cancun’s hotel zone was known as the “End of the Hotel Zone” since no other hotels or resort extended away from its shore. Nowadays however, you’ll find plenty more lodging options beyond this picturesque beach!

Why is it called Playa Delfines?
The name of Playa Delfines was a calculated move to differentiate it from the other beaches in the city, which are all named after sea animals, such as Whale Beach, Marlin Beach, and Turtle Beach. This merely serves as an identifier for this beach; however, despite its designation, dolphins do not live near or occasionally show up at Playa Delfines.
How to get to Playa Delfines?
Getting to playa delfines is very easy with a bus, taxi, car or private transport.
Bus
If you want to take the R1 bus, make sure to head for Avenida López Portillo or Avenida Tulum and look out for stops! Remember to double-check with your driver if this particular route will be taking you directly toward the hotel zone. The journey should last somewhere between 30-40 minutes until then. As soon as you spot either the Mayan museum or Iberostar Hotel from afar, it’s a sign that Playa delfines is just south of there – so get ready for some fun in the sun!
If you stay in the city center, this will certainly apply to you. However, if your accommodation is situated within the hotel zone then it would be easier for you to get there – simply look out for a truck that passes right by your door!
Getting to Playa Delfines with your car
To get to Playa Dolphins, the most direct route is Bonampak Avenue in downtown Cancun. From there, take Kukulcan Boulevard and keep an eye out for the Mayan Museum; you’ll know you’re close! Once onsite, be sure to arrive early as parking spaces are limited—the right side of this beach does have a lot, but it can fill up quickly. With punctuality and careful navigation, however, arriving at your destination will be a seamless experience.
Private Transfer or Taxi
Getting to Playa Delfines is very easy by taxi (ask for a recommendation from your hotel). You can also book a private transfer service that costs more but is definitely more comfortable, especially for large groups. Uber is available in Cancun but best that you don’t use it.
At Playa Dolphins, there is something for everyone! Every year this beach attracts thousands of visitor. Whether you are interested in swimming competitions or trying out the soaring adventure that comes with parasailing, Playa Dolphins offers a wide range of activities and things to do to suit people of all ages. Come and explore Cancun’s paradise spot at its finest – experience what it means to live life on the edge!
When you visit this picturesque destination, you will be awestruck by the unparalleled sunrises and sunsets that it offers. Not only can one admire these views of the Caribbean Sea, but also amateurs or professionals alike may take advantage of this setting to capture photos with a stunning backdrop! You’ll want to keep those memories forever as they truly make your visit here in paradise unforgettable.
Cancun’s Playa Delfines is one of the most stunning and protected beaches – a paradise for children, young adults, and seniors alike. Its expansive 4km area gives ample space to explore in total relaxation. With free umbrellas and hammocks available at no cost, you can enjoy this beach on your own terms without breaking the bank!
Visiting this beach is the perfect opportunity for a truly incredible experience: surfing! Depending on when you visit, you can take advantage of some amazing waves to have fun, relieve stress and get an intense workout. You can bring your own surfboard or rent one from any local businesses near the beach. And don’t worry if there are young children in tow – they’ll love playing at nearby playgrounds with slides and swings before taking a dip in the ocean.
Traveling to 🇲🇽 Mexico soon?
I recommend these travel resources for Mexico that I personally use:
🏨 Hotels: I have found that Expedia and Booking.com consistently have the best deals on hotels and resorts in Mexico. If you prefer to stay at a vacation rental, check VRBO that is usually cheaper than AirBnB’s added fees!
✈️ Flights: To find the best flight deals to Mexico, I always use Kayak. Remember to subscribe to their price alerts for the travel dates you want. Another great alternative for flight deals is Expedia.
🚗 Rental Cars: I always use and highly recommend Discover Cars because it allows me to compare several car rental companies and view ratings on various factors such as overall value, pick-up procedure, agent efficiency, car condition, and total time taken.
🚙 CancunAirport Transportation: For the fastest and easiest way to travel, I suggest arranging a private transfer with Cancun Airport Transportation. Honestly, no better way to travel from the airport to your hotel or resort.
🤿 Tours & Activities: For tours and activities in Mexico, I highly recommend using either Viator or GetYourGuide. These websites offer a full refund if you cancel your booking 24 hours before the start of the tour, and they also provide excellent customer service in case of any issues.
🚨 Travel Insurance: I always suggest purchasing travel insurance as a precaution before traveling, especially after a recent accident in a taxi in Mexico. For short trips, I recommend Travel Insurance Master, whereas for digital nomads, Safety Wing is a better option.
📷 Best Camera for your trip: I always carry with me a GoPro, It’s light, compact, takes great video and pictures, and most importantly, it’s waterproof! You just can’t go wrong with one. If you are interested in higher quality video and photography, I always carry with me on my trips and highly recommend the Sony A7IV which I think is the best travel DSLR Camera out there.
☀️ Biodegradable Sunscreen: Remember to include a good sunscreen to protect yourself from the summer sun. I always use and suggest Sun Bum Sunscreen, which is vegan, reef-friendly, and cruelty-free.
