Mykonos Theoxenia - An Honest Review

Table of Contents

The Ambience

The Mykonos Theoxenia is a historic property built in 1960 and has been officially recognized by the Greek Ministry of Civilization as a nationally preserved site. It is constructed with local stone and boasts a charming vintage style.

The property is situated in a location where the town’s famous windmills can be seen from the property. The lobby has various retro furnishings, including hanging wicker egg chairs, a typewriter, and rotary dial phone, to give guests a unique experience.

The hotel has modern amenities like a flat-screen TV and a computer available for guests. The nearby lounge features a bar and comfortable retro seating areas. However, the hotel is situated close to windmills, which causes some traffic problems with visitors parking nearby.

Guests can use the hotel’s spacious stone parking lot free of charge. Those arriving by helicopter can land directly on the property. Couples who are fond of its glamorous history, style, and proximity to the town’s nightlife scene find the hotel especially attractive, but families and groups also choose to stay here.

This Design Hotels property is a popular venue for weddings. Please note that it is temporarily closed during the winter season, from October to April.

The Location

The hotel is located near the famous windmills of Mykonos, a popular spot for photographers. It takes only five minutes to walk to the center of Mykonos town, where you’ll find a variety of restaurants, shops, bars, and clubs.

However, it can get crowded during high season. Although the hotel has a beach, it’s not ideal for swimming. For a better swimming experience, you can walk for 10 minutes to Mageli Amos Beach, the closest major beach to Mykonos town.

Little Venice is a five-minute walk away, while the Mykonos airport is less than 10 minutes away by car.

The Rooms

Upon arrival, guests are greeted with complimentary fruit and wine in their stylish and modern rooms, which feature retro 1960s décor.

The rooms boast bright colors such as blue, pink, green, and yellow, which look fresh and modern against the white bed coverings and stone or wood floors. The mid-century modern medium-toned wood furnishings and Van der Rohe-inspired lines throughout the room add to the cheerful and fun look but not in an overdone way.

The rooms come equipped with flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, bathrobes and slippers, coffee/tea facilities, digital music players, minibars, free Wi-Fi, and a work desk for guests’ convenience.

Although small bathrooms are impeccably clean, they include makeup mirrors, hairdryers, and high-quality toiletries. Additionally, each room has a balcony or terrace with comfortable teak furniture and either a garden or sea view.

You can enjoy drinks at The Breeze In bar in the lobby or at The Breeze Out Pool Bar, which also serves light meals by the pool. Diners are shaded by large trees, adding to the pleasant atmosphere.

The pool outside is just as blue as the neighboring Aegean Sea and surrounded by beautiful trees. The pool area is equipped with lounges, daybeds, cabanas, and umbrellas to ensure your relaxation while the lifeguard ensures your safety.

Although the beach is small and rocky, guests can still enjoy aqua biking and using the treadmill in the pool. The BHealthy Club offers massage treatments, and a small gym is available. Free Wi-Fi and airport transfers are provided.

Traveling to 🇬🇷 Greece soon?

I recommend these travel resources for Greece that I personally use:

🏨 Hotels: I have found that Expedia and Booking.com consistently have the best deals on hotels and resorts in Greece. If you prefer to stay at a vacation rental, check VRBO that is usually cheaper than AirBnB’s added fees!

✈️ Flights: To find the best flight deals to Greece, I always use Kayak. Remember to subscribe to their price alerts for the travel dates you want. Another great alternative for flight deals is Expedia.

🚗 Rental Cars: I always use and highly recommend Discover Cars because it allows me to compare several car rental companies and view ratings on various factors such as overall value, pick-up procedure, agent efficiency, car condition, and total time taken.

🚙 Airport Transportation: For the fastest and easiest way to travel, I suggest arranging a private transfer from the airport and beetween destinations with Welcome Pickups. Honestly, no better way to travel from the airport to your hotel or resort.

🤿 Tours & Activities: For tours and activities in Greece, I highly recommend using either Viator or GetYourGuide. These websites offer a full refund if you cancel your booking 24 hours before the start of the tour, and they also provide excellent customer service in case of any issues.

🚨 Travel Insurance: I always suggest purchasing travel insurance as a precaution before traveling, especially after a recent accident in a taxi in Greece. For short trips, I recommend Travel Insurance Master, whereas for digital nomads, Safety Wing is a better option.

📷 Best Camera for your trip: I always carry with me a GoPro, It’s light, compact, takes great video and pictures, and most importantly, it’s waterproof! You just can’t go wrong with one. If you are interested in higher quality video and photography, I always carry with me on my trips and highly recommend the Sony A7IV which I think is the best travel DSLR Camera out there.

☀️ Biodegradable Sunscreen: Remember to include a good sunscreen to protect yourself from the summer sun. I always use and suggest Sun Bum Sunscreen, which is vegan, reef-friendly, and cruelty-free.
