Healthcare in Italy
According to the World Health Organization, Italy is boasting the second-best Healthcare system in the world, just behind France, Italy offers an unparalleled level of sophistication and efficiency. What’s even more commendable is that such a great healthcare network can be provided at a very affordable cost – making it accessible to everyone!
Italy has one of the best healthcare systems in the world; however, discrepancies between different parts of Italy and private versus public sectors exist. Northern Italy is significantly wealthier than its southern counterpart, providing access to superior quality public medical services. Despite this disparity, even those living in less affluent areas still receive care that is above average.
As a foreigner with an accepted visa, you will have access to the same public health system as Italian citizens. However, if your residency application is still being processed, it is required that you obtain private medical insurance for approximately $1,500 every year. Furthermore, there may be some difficulty communicating in English due to some of the older doctors having limited abilities in this language.
