Daios Cove Luxury Resort & Villas - An Honest Review

Table of Contents

The Ambience

A high-end resort ideal for families sprawling across a hill by the seaside.

Daios Cove is a luxurious resort that attracts families, couples, and conference guests who appreciate high-end amenities and are able to afford them. The resort boasts stunning views and even scents the villas with customized essential oils.

The resort is situated on a hill that descends to the beach, and the buildings are tan-colored and blend in well with the sandy environment. Keep in mind that the resort is pricey. The common areas of the hotel have a neutral color scheme and modern furniture with plenty of natural light.

The lobby and restaurants have large windows. There are also some outdoor seating areas shaded by palm trees and funicular-style elevators with glass walls that transport guests to the beach and lower sections of the hillside.

However, some guests have mentioned that the transportation around the property is not well-maintained.

Daios Cove is not located in the city center of Agios, so it is quieter and more isolated than some other properties. However, during the busy season, the common areas can be lively, with many energetic children crowding pools and restaurants.

Guests seeking complete peace and quiet for a romantic getaway may want to consider other options. This hotel is a top luxury option in Agios Nikolaos. It is also one of the best options in all of Crete. If you are interested in the Elounda area, the Domes of Elounda Boutique Beach Resort offers a comparable level of luxury.

The Location

The location is on a hilltop with a sea view and can be reached via a quick drive from Agios Nikolaos.

The Daios is situated on a hilltop with a great view of the sea. It’s near the main road in Agios Nikolaos, a coastal city with around 10,000 residents.

The Archaeological Museum and the town center are both accessible within a 15-minute drive. Faedra Beach, a popular spot, can be reached in six minutes by car.

Chania takes roughly 2.5-3 hours by car, while Rethymno takes about two hours. The property is located at a distance of approximately one hour from the port at Heraklion, the airport, and the ancient ruins of Knossos.

As public transportation is not easily available in this remote location, guests may need to rent a car or pay for taxis in order to commute.

The accommodations include a range of rooms and villas, some of which have more than one bedroom and private swimming pools.

At Daios Cove, you can choose from different types of accommodations, such as rooms, suites, and villas. Many of these come with sea-facing balconies and private plunge pools. The villas vary in size from one-bedroom units to a large Mansion with three bedrooms and staff quarters.

All villas come with private pools, and some even have private gardens. Please keep in mind that if you want to heat your private pool, the resort will charge extra for this service, and you need to give them at least 24 hours notice.

The room decor is uniform across all types and includes light-wood furniture, light-wood floors, modern glass coffee tables, and low seats and sofas covered in blue or brown velvet.

The basic Deluxe Sea View Rooms are also stylish, featuring king-size beds with memory foam pillows and high-end Egyptian linen bedding. Additionally, the rooms are equipped with top-of-the-line technology, such as LCD media hubs and flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, as well as iPod alarm clocks.

The rooms are equipped with a minibar, coffee/tea facilities, and 24-hour room service. The bathrooms are beautifully decorated with beige marble tile and have a large rainfall shower, soaking tub, marble-top vanity with a makeup mirror, ironing facilities, hairdryers, high-end toiletries, and free Wi-Fi.

The hotel offers a variety of amenities for guests, including a kids’ club, spa and fitness facilities, a private beach, indoor/outdoor pools, several restaurants and bars, and event space.

Daios Cove is a top-notch five-pearl resort that offers luxurious amenities. You can find various shops on the premises that sell jewelry and high-end fashion items and a mini-market where you can purchase books, snacks, and other small items.

Babysitting services are also available, and supervised daily lunches and dinners are provided.

The resort has an elegant spa that is perfect for parents who need to relax. It has many features, including a Finnish sauna, a Thai massage studio, and hydro-spa facilities. Additionally, there is a large fitness center that has top-quality Technogym-brand cardio equipment and free weights. Yoga and Pilates classes occur frequently during the summer.

The hotel’s beach by the cove is very appealing, but has limited sand. However, there are plenty of lounge chairs and parasols for shade. The hotel has a water-sports center that offers activities such as water-skiing, pedal boats, canoeing, and scuba diving.

There is also a seawater infinity pool with views of the cove, as well as two indoor pools in the spa. There are two restaurants available: Taverna, which is a Greek eatery that serves fresh catch-of-the-day seafood and wines from around the world, and Ocean Restaurant, which serves Mediterranean dishes during dinner and provides breakfast service for guests staying in Villas.

For guests in rooms and suites, a free buffet breakfast is served at Pangea, which has international buffets and occasional theme nights. (Some guests note the buffet food isn’t always hot enough.) Bars include the poolside Ocean Bar, the beachfront Beach Bar, and a cocktail bar, Crystal Box, with floor-to-ceiling windows and views out on the Bay.

Bottom Line

Daios Cove Luxury Resort & Villas is a highly luxurious property situated in Agios Nikolaos area on the island of Crete. The resort offers 300 guest rooms which include Suites and Villas with splendid sea views, some of which also come with private saltwater plunge pools.

The resort boasts several modern and stylish features, such as a Greek fine-dining restaurant, an all-encompassing kids’ club, and an exquisite spa with two indoor swimming pools. This place has a beautiful infinity pool with a view of the sea, and a private beach where staff serve food and drinks to guests on their loungers.

However, there are a few things to consider: the location is isolated, the grounds are hilly, and there are a lot of active children.

Traveling to 🇬🇷 Greece soon?

I recommend these travel resources for Greece that I personally use:

🏨 Hotels: I have found that Expedia and Booking.com consistently have the best deals on hotels and resorts in Greece. If you prefer to stay at a vacation rental, check VRBO that is usually cheaper than AirBnB’s added fees!

✈️ Flights: To find the best flight deals to Greece, I always use Kayak. Remember to subscribe to their price alerts for the travel dates you want. Another great alternative for flight deals is Expedia.

🚗 Rental Cars: I always use and highly recommend Discover Cars because it allows me to compare several car rental companies and view ratings on various factors such as overall value, pick-up procedure, agent efficiency, car condition, and total time taken.

🚙 Airport Transportation: For the fastest and easiest way to travel, I suggest arranging a private transfer from the airport and beetween destinations with Welcome Pickups. Honestly, no better way to travel from the airport to your hotel or resort.

🤿 Tours & Activities: For tours and activities in Greece, I highly recommend using either Viator or GetYourGuide. These websites offer a full refund if you cancel your booking 24 hours before the start of the tour, and they also provide excellent customer service in case of any issues.

🚨 Travel Insurance: I always suggest purchasing travel insurance as a precaution before traveling, especially after a recent accident in a taxi in Greece. For short trips, I recommend Travel Insurance Master, whereas for digital nomads, Safety Wing is a better option.

📷 Best Camera for your trip: I always carry with me a GoPro, It’s light, compact, takes great video and pictures, and most importantly, it’s waterproof! You just can’t go wrong with one. If you are interested in higher quality video and photography, I always carry with me on my trips and highly recommend the Sony A7IV which I think is the best travel DSLR Camera out there.

☀️ Biodegradable Sunscreen: Remember to include a good sunscreen to protect yourself from the summer sun. I always use and suggest Sun Bum Sunscreen, which is vegan, reef-friendly, and cruelty-free.
