Corfu Palace Hotel - An Honest Review

Table of Contents

The Ambience

Although Old World furnishings have a classic feel, they may seem outdated. The Corfu Palace Hotel was established in 1954 and was among the first large, upscale hotels constructed on the island. The six-story building has an impressive appearance, with a balustrade balcony facade and a grand staircase leading to a gabled entrance.

However, the signage looks outdated, and the exterior appears weathered due to its age. The interiors are adorned with antique-style furnishings, such as mirrored columns, polished brass trim, and patterned rugs, which have lost their charm and seem out of fashion. The hotel maintains a classical design in other areas as well.

The property has gardens that are well-maintained with manicured lawns, pine and palm trees, and colorful flowers. These gardens are located on the side of the property, and there is a tall ancient wall where some flowers are planted at the foot. The main attraction of the gardens is the sea views that can be seen from various places.

The clients who frequent this property are usually older, and many are repeat customers. Although occasionally, families with children can also be seen enjoying the pool.

The Location

Located on the outskirts of the historic Corfu Town, this place offers scenic views of Garitsa Bay.

The hotel is situated in a great spot at the southern end of Corfu’s historic Old Town with a wonderful view of Garitsa Bay. It is close to many popular tourist attractions, such as the Old Fortress and Spianada Square, which are only a short 10-minute walk away. There is also a lovely waterfront boardwalk just across the hotel. Furthermore, the hotel is conveniently located less than five minutes away by car from Corfu’s Ioannis Kapodistrias Airport.

The Rooms

All the rooms are designed in a classical style, and they come with marble bathrooms and views of the sea.

The hotel has a total of 106 rooms, and all of them provide a view of the sea. Most of the rooms have balconies, while the “Garden Rooms” have terraces with lounge chairs and direct access to the garden. The decor of the rooms is similar to the rest of the hotel, with antique-style furniture, coordinating floral fabrics, textured magnolia walls, and either carpeted or wood floors.

The rooms have minibars, wide-screen TVs with limited English-language options for some satellite channels, and free but inconsistent Wi-Fi. The bathrooms are made of marble and have shower/tub combos, wall-mounted hairdryers, bidets, and standard robes and slippers.

The upgraded rooms have better views, are more spacious, and are located on higher floors. There are various types of suites with up to two bedrooms and different floor plans.

Features

Enjoy a large saltwater pool that includes a separate area for children and offers a panoramic view of the bay.

The Corfu Palace Hotel serves high-quality food, and guests especially enjoy the buffet breakfast at the Bizantino Restaurant, which is included in the room rate. The restaurant is semi-covered and operates during warmer months.

Additionally, guests can enjoy lunch, dinner, and evening entertainment. The hotel’s main restaurant serves a four-course set menu every evening, and there’s an a la carte restaurant that offers sea-view dining on its terrace. During the summer, the hotel also hosts weekly barbecues that guests enjoy.

The hotel has a spacious saltwater swimming pool that is never crowded and is accompanied by ample lounge chairs. The pool offers views of the sea and a separate splash pool for children. However, the hotel does not provide any other kid-friendly amenities.

Additionally, the hotel features a spa and casino, but outside management controls these facilities. While Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, it may not always have a strong connection.

Bottom Line

The Corfu Palace Hotel, which has an old-fashioned design that dates back to the 1950s, is a luxurious property that has lost some of its former glory. However, it is located on the waterfront of Corfu Town, making it an ideal spot to explore the city’s attractions on foot.

The hotel’s 106 rooms have lovely sea views and marble bathrooms, but the outdated decor may not be to everyone’s liking, and the in-room Wi-Fi can be unreliable. The hotel offers a variety of delicious food options, including buffet breakfasts and fine dining choices.

Guests can also enjoy a spacious saltwater swimming pool with stunning bay views. While the hotel is considered a historic landmark, some guests feel that the interiors are outdated and too formal for their liking.

Traveling to 🇬🇷 Greece soon?

I recommend these travel resources for Greece that I personally use:

🏨 Hotels: I have found that Expedia and Booking.com consistently have the best deals on hotels and resorts in Greece. If you prefer to stay at a vacation rental, check VRBO that is usually cheaper than AirBnB’s added fees!

✈️ Flights: To find the best flight deals to Greece, I always use Kayak. Remember to subscribe to their price alerts for the travel dates you want. Another great alternative for flight deals is Expedia.

🚗 Rental Cars: I always use and highly recommend Discover Cars because it allows me to compare several car rental companies and view ratings on various factors such as overall value, pick-up procedure, agent efficiency, car condition, and total time taken.

🚙 Airport Transportation: For the fastest and easiest way to travel, I suggest arranging a private transfer from the airport and beetween destinations with Welcome Pickups. Honestly, no better way to travel from the airport to your hotel or resort.

🤿 Tours & Activities: For tours and activities in Greece, I highly recommend using either Viator or GetYourGuide. These websites offer a full refund if you cancel your booking 24 hours before the start of the tour, and they also provide excellent customer service in case of any issues.

🚨 Travel Insurance: I always suggest purchasing travel insurance as a precaution before traveling, especially after a recent accident in a taxi in Greece. For short trips, I recommend Travel Insurance Master, whereas for digital nomads, Safety Wing is a better option.

📷 Best Camera for your trip: I always carry with me a GoPro, It’s light, compact, takes great video and pictures, and most importantly, it’s waterproof! You just can’t go wrong with one. If you are interested in higher quality video and photography, I always carry with me on my trips and highly recommend the Sony A7IV which I think is the best travel DSLR Camera out there.

☀️ Biodegradable Sunscreen: Remember to include a good sunscreen to protect yourself from the summer sun. I always use and suggest Sun Bum Sunscreen, which is vegan, reef-friendly, and cruelty-free.
