Cabanas Tulum - An Honest Review

Table of Contents

Hotel Cabanas, Mexico is a beachfront property that has a pool and offers holistic spa services. The hotel has really spacious rooms and suites that can accommodate up to 3 bedrooms. Some rooms even have private jacuzzis.

Cabañas Tulum is the sister property of The Beach Tulum and is located on the same beautiful beach. Ziggy’s Restaurant and Beach Club is also shared by both properties. Additionally, Hotel Cabañas has its own restaurant and beach bar called Fresco’s. Note that guests must be at least 14 years old.

Our Review

I had a fantastic stay at Cabanas and the hotel staff truly made the experience memorable. The front desk were so helpful in fulfilling all our needs, from booking trips to getting taxis and even helping us settle a dispute with a restaurant. They also provided great recommendations.

I particularly enjoyed the breakfast at Frescos, which was delicious and not your typical American continental breakfast. This experience exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend this hotel.

Restaurants and Food

We enjoyed a variety of breakfast options during our stay, including fresh fruit with granola, complimentary gluten-free bread with homemade peanut butter and jam, and daily specials. We even had the quiche twice because it was so tasty! The excellent staff made our stay even better.

When my girlfriend wasn’t feeling well and couldn’t come down for breakfast, Guillermo kindly brought a tray of food to our room. We didn’t get a chance to try Ziggy’s because we were so satisfied with Fresco’s.

The restaurant offers really good lunch and dinner options such as ceviche, tuna, and tasty drinks and mayan fresh juice. We even had lunch on the beach one day. The food was fresh and delightful. Our room was very clean and comfortable with a balcony and roof deck.

The Location

The hotel is located just a few steps away from the beach and has security to ensure that only hotel guests use the chairs and facilities. Although there was sargassum, the beach was regularly cleaned and it did not hinder the enjoyment of the beach. The sunrise on the beach is a must-see. Additionally, the spa was amazing and I found the Ayurvedic treatment to be incredibly relaxing despite it being messy.

The Spa

I really enjoyed the sauna, steam room, and hot and cold plunge pools. Even though I don’t typically spend much time at hotels, I loved the relaxation opportunities, including the beach and roof deck, as well as dining at the cabanas.

For this vacation, I prioritized rest and making use of the amenities. If I return to Tulum, I wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else.

Traveling to 🇲🇽 Mexico soon?

I recommend these travel resources for Mexico that I personally use:

🏨 Hotels: I have found that Expedia and Booking.com consistently have the best deals on hotels and resorts in Mexico. If you prefer to stay at a vacation rental, check VRBO that is usually cheaper than AirBnB’s added fees!

✈️ Flights: To find the best flight deals to Mexico, I always use Kayak. Remember to subscribe to their price alerts for the travel dates you want. Another great alternative for flight deals is Expedia.

🚗 Rental Cars: I always use and highly recommend Discover Cars because it allows me to compare several car rental companies and view ratings on various factors such as overall value, pick-up procedure, agent efficiency, car condition, and total time taken.

🚙 Cancun Airport Transportation: For the fastest and easiest way to travel, I suggest arranging a private transfer with Cancun Airport Transportation. Honestly, no better way to travel from the airport to your hotel or resort.

🤿 Tours & Activities: For tours and activities in Mexico, I highly recommend using either Viator or GetYourGuide. These websites offer a full refund if you cancel your booking 24 hours before the start of the tour, and they also provide excellent customer service in case of any issues.

🚨 Travel Insurance: I always suggest purchasing travel insurance as a precaution before traveling, especially after a recent accident in a taxi in Mexico. For short trips, I recommend Travel Insurance Master, whereas for digital nomads, Safety Wing is a better option.

📷 Best Camera for your trip: I always carry with me a GoPro, It’s light, compact, takes great video and pictures, and most importantly, it’s waterproof! You just can’t go wrong with one. If you are interested in higher quality video and photography, I always carry with me on my trips and highly recommend the Sony A7IV which I think is the best travel DSLR Camera out there.

☀️ Biodegradable Sunscreen: Remember to include a good sunscreen to protect yourself from the summer sun. I always use and suggest Sun Bum Sunscreen, which is vegan, reef-friendly, and cruelty-free.
