Santorini is a breathtakingly beautiful island in the Aegean Sea, famous for its stunning views, picturesque villages, and unique volcanic landscape. However, many travelers often assume that a visit to Santorini must come with a hefty price tag, making it an unaffordable destination. Fortunately, this is not entirely true.
There are plenty of affordable accommodation options on the island, ranging from budget-friendly hotels to guesthouses and hostels. In this article, we will explore some of the best cheap hotels in Santorini that offer comfortable rooms, excellent amenities, and a great value for your money.
Here are some of the most affordable hotels in Santorini:
Antonia Hotel (Fira)
Located in the heart of Fira, Antonia Hotel is perfect if you want to be close to all the action. Run by a family, this hotel offers a great central location that makes it easy to access everything in Fira. While the rooms are basic, they are kept very clean. The hotel also has a lovely patio where you can relax. What’s more, the owners can arrange a shuttle bus to and from the port or airport for just 5 euros, which is a fantastic deal.

King Thiras Hotel (Firostefani)
Although it lacks luxurious amenities, King Thiras Hotel has received high ratings online for its simple but clean and decent accommodations. It’s a great place to spend a few days in Santorini. Most of the rooms have balconies with great views, and they have been recently renovated. Another plus is the really good breakfast.

Kiklamino Suite & Apartments (Oia)
Kiklamino Suites is a charming family-run hotel located a bit away from the main tourist spots in Oia. Please note that finding cheap prices with caldera views is pretty much impossible in Santorini. However, Kiklamino Suites offers modernly decorated rooms, a cute backyard, and a delicious breakfast basket every day. It’s a wonderful choice for those who want a lovely stay in Oia.

Stelios Villa
This hotel is a hit with travelers on Booking.com, and it’s not hard to see why. While it may not have the stunning views of some of the more expensive hotels in Santorini, Stelios Villa makes up for it with its friendly, family-run atmosphere.
For around $100 a night during peak season, you’ll get a clean and comfortable room with daily cleaning service, free towels, and a nearby beach just a few meters away. The hotel also offers a refreshing swimming pool to cool off in, and even includes free airport pickup to make your arrival as stress-free as possible.

Phoenix Hotel (Fira)
At a 10-minute walk from the city centre, this recently renovated hotel boasts spacious, air-conditioned rooms and a lovely swimming pool to enjoy during your stay. You’ll also appreciate the warm and welcoming atmosphere, thanks to the friendly owners who go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
Follow these tips to find pocket-friendly accommodation in Santorini:
Hotels located near beach towns like Perissa, Perivolos, or Kamari in Santorini are generally less expensive than those in Oia or Fira. While budget-friendly options are available near the beach, they do not offer views of the caldera.
If you’re looking for budget-friendly accommodation in Santorini (less than $50 per night), consider staying at Santorini Hostel or Youth Hostel Anna.
Bottom Line
You don’t need to spend lots of money to travel and stay in Santorini. To save money, book hotels at least 6 months in advance and avoid staying near the caldera during June, July, August, or September. Perissa hotels are always a cheaper option, but there are also affordable hotels in Mykonos if you want to visit that island too.
Traveling to 🇬🇷 Greece soon?
I recommend these travel resources for Greece that I personally use:
🏨 Hotels: I have found that Expedia and Booking.com consistently have the best deals on hotels and resorts in Greece. If you prefer to stay at a vacation rental, check VRBO that is usually cheaper than AirBnB’s added fees!
✈️ Flights: To find the best flight deals to Greece, I always use Kayak. Remember to subscribe to their price alerts for the travel dates you want. Another great alternative for flight deals is Expedia.
🚗 Rental Cars: I always use and highly recommend Discover Cars because it allows me to compare several car rental companies and view ratings on various factors such as overall value, pick-up procedure, agent efficiency, car condition, and total time taken.
🚙 Airport Transportation: For the fastest and easiest way to travel, I suggest arranging a private transfer from the airport and beetween destinations with Welcome Pickups. Honestly, no better way to travel from the airport to your hotel or resort.
🤿 Tours & Activities: For tours and activities in Greece, I highly recommend using either Viator or GetYourGuide. These websites offer a full refund if you cancel your booking 24 hours before the start of the tour, and they also provide excellent customer service in case of any issues.
🚨 Travel Insurance: I always suggest purchasing travel insurance as a precaution before traveling, especially after a recent accident in a taxi in Greece. For short trips, I recommend Travel Insurance Master, whereas for digital nomads, Safety Wing is a better option.
📷 Best Camera for your trip: I always carry with me a GoPro, It’s light, compact, takes great video and pictures, and most importantly, it’s waterproof! You just can’t go wrong with one. If you are interested in higher quality video and photography, I always carry with me on my trips and highly recommend the Sony A7IV which I think is the best travel DSLR Camera out there.
☀️ Biodegradable Sunscreen: Remember to include a good sunscreen to protect yourself from the summer sun. I always use and suggest Sun Bum Sunscreen, which is vegan, reef-friendly, and cruelty-free.
If you’re looking for affordable lodging options, consider checking out the hotels in Santorini’s Kamari, Perissa, Perivolos, and Karterados areas. These areas have a good selection of economical hotels that won’t put a dent in your budget.
If you prefer a lively atmosphere with lots of people around, Fira or Oia might be your best bet. For a quieter and more upscale experience, check out Firostefani or Imerovigli.
To save money during your stay in Santorini, we recommend taking the 8-hour Bluestar ferry and using the local Santorini buses for transportation. This will save you money compared to hiring a private car or taking a taxi.
Another way to save money is to grab breakfast from a bakery and try Greek street food like souvlaki instead of dining at restaurants with Caldera views, which tend to be more expensive.
Santorini has some of the most iconic beaches in the Aegean Sea, not least because of its iconic black sand. The most popular is Perissa Beach. Red Beach is also one of the best Santorini beaches.
