Athina Luxury Suites, Santorini - An Honest Review
Table of Contents
The Ambience
This hotel has a tranquil atmosphere, modern design, and breathtaking scenic views.
The Athina Luxury Suites, similar to other hotels on the island, can be reached by navigating through narrow paths and steep stairs. However, the hotel takes advantage of its location by offering breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea.
Upon arriving at the hotel’s serene and stylish courtyard, you will find a variety of comfortable outdoor seating, a swinging chair, lovely pots of lavender, and small olive trees. From the courtyard, you can see stunning views of the caldera stretching towards the south of the island.
Nea Kameni, a volcanic island formed from lava and ash over many years, is also visible from here. The bar area and multiple seating levels offer the same breathtaking view.
The ambiance is peaceful, and the guests mostly consist of couples, which is not surprising given the romantic setting and style of the place.

The location is great, on a hillside just a short distance away from the main pedestrian walkway. The central area of Fira can be reached with a five-minute walk.
The Athina Luxury Suites are situated in the southern part of Fira, the island’s main city. They’re located on a cliffside and are easily accessible via a pedestrian walkway.
Walk past the Orthodox Cathedral, which is right beside the hotel’s entrance. You’ll find the Museum of Prehistoric Thira, which is the original name for Santorini. The central Fira area, which has shops, restaurants, and nightlife, is a five-minute walk away from the hotel.
However, there are also several shops and restaurants along the clifftop paths as you make your way there. The Old Port, located under the hotel, can be accessed by steep steps. However, these steps are mainly used by donkeys that transport tourists, so it might be crowded for pedestrians. Instead, they can take the cable-car.
It takes around 15 minutes to travel by car to the airport or ferry port. Buses are also available from the main road, which is a five-minute walk away. There are buses to beach resorts, like Kamari, and Ammoudi, a charming fishing village at the base of the caldera that is famous for swimming.
The Rooms
The suites are designed with stylish features and include air-conditioning. They also have private balconies that offer views of the sea.
The Athina’s 10 suites are decorated in a modern style using white-washed wood and concrete furniture. The decor has shades of gray and white with accents of sky blue to reflect the seaside location.
All suites come with standard amenities like minibars, flat-screen TVs, iPod docking stations, safes, bathrobes/slippers, free Wi-Fi, and a private balcony or terrace. You will be greeted with a welcome drink upon arrival and a complimentary breakfast served in your suite.
The Master Loft Suites have a striking loft bed hanging from the ceiling, while the Honeymoon Suite offers a whirlpool on the terrace. The Royal Suite includes two bedrooms and three bathrooms. It also features a balcony with a whirlpool and water feature that has been beautifully finished.
In general, the bathrooms are modern and compact, with stone-colored tiles and rainfall showers. However, the Honeymoon Suite has an additional jetted corner bath. The marble bathrooms in the Royal Suite are more spacious and include a shower/tub combo and twin basins in the master bedroom.
Features
The hotel offers various amenities, including an outdoor pool that overlooks the sea, a gym, a bar, a restaurant, and a complimentary breakfast served directly to your room.
The Athina Hotel in Santorini has easy-to-reach features and well-arranged tunnels and staircases, unlike other hillside hotels. The hotel has a beautiful L-shaped pool by the ocean, with decking, sun loungers, and umbrellas, as well as a small bar area where drinks are available all day.
Moreover, guests are offered a customized breakfast served in-room without any additional cost. Additionally, the Esperisma restaurant, situated next door, serves traditional Greek cuisine made from fresh local ingredients.
Although there isn’t a proper spa on-site, the hotel can arrange massage and beauty treatments. The exercise room is small and basic but rare for this part of the island, and it has cardio machines and a weight bench.
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, but the signal may be patchy in the stone-walled rooms. Off-site parking is available, but some past guests have found it to be too far away.

I recommend these travel resources for Greece that I personally use:

✈️ Flights: To find the best flight deals to Greece, I always use Kayak. Remember to subscribe to their price alerts for the travel dates you want. Another great alternative for flight deals is Expedia.
🚗 Rental Cars: I always use and highly recommend Discover Cars because it allows me to compare several car rental companies and view ratings on various factors such as overall value, pick-up procedure, agent efficiency, car condition, and total time taken.
🚙 Airport Transportation: For the fastest and easiest way to travel, I suggest arranging a private transfer from the airport and beetween destinations with Welcome Pickups. Honestly, no better way to travel from the airport to your hotel or resort.

🚨 Travel Insurance: I always suggest purchasing travel insurance as a precaution before traveling, especially after a recent accident in a taxi in Greece. For short trips, I recommend Travel Insurance Master, whereas for digital nomads, Safety Wing is a better option.
📷 Best Camera for your trip: I always carry with me a GoPro, It’s light, compact, takes great video and pictures, and most importantly, it’s waterproof! You just can’t go wrong with one. If you are interested in higher quality video and photography, I always carry with me on my trips and highly recommend the Sony A7IV which I think is the best travel DSLR Camera out there.
☀️ Biodegradable Sunscreen: Remember to include a good sunscreen to protect yourself from the summer sun. I always use and suggest Sun Bum Sunscreen, which is vegan, reef-friendly, and cruelty-free.
