In the United States, most properties are considered mid-tier and provide decent accommodation with average amenities which are not usually designed to be the main attraction. However, the Aloft Tulum sets itself apart from others, which becomes evident from the moment guests arrive. As soon as visitors step into the lobby, they are greeted with high ceilings and multi-story, glass-paneled windows that offer a breathtaking view of the majestic rainforest.

The hotel is located in front of Tulum National Park, which contributes to its peaceful atmosphere. It is also built surrounding a sizeable portion of the forest, rather than directly on top of it. The complex features a tree canopy that grows through its center, visible from many public areas and guest rooms.

In the United States, most properties offer mid-tier lodging with average amenities and are not usually considered their own destinations. However, Aloft Tulum sets itself apart and this is evident as soon as guests arrive. The lobby features high ceilings and large windows that provide a stunning view of the untouched rainforest.

The hotel is located across from Tulum National Park, which contributes significantly to its serene atmosphere. It is also constructed around a spacious forest area rather than on top of it. A treetop canopy grows right through the middle of the hotel, and most of the public spaces and guestrooms provide a great view of it.

The Rooftop Bar and Infinity Pool

One of the best features of the resort is the Atico Rooftop Bar & Lounge, which is exclusively for adults. Here, guests can indulge in mezcal cocktails, tacos, salads, and other local and international food. They can also enjoy hookahs with a choice of flavored tobaccos.

One can feel like they’re on an island surrounded by the lush green forest canopy of the nearby national park, with views of the beach resorts’ rooftops in the distance. The Tulum Ruins’ Castillo can also be seen to the north.

Guests can relax next to the infinity pool on a lounger or in a first-come, first-served cabana. The pool bar offers service making it a popular lounge spot for many guests when they aren’t out exploring the local area.

The hotel is located close to the beach, ruins, and central district of Tulum. The central district of Tulum is designated as a “Pueblo Magico,” indicating remarkable beauty, culture, and cuisine. Guests can explore artisanal shops and try cochinita pibil (a Yucatecan specialty of pork roasted with citrus juices) tacos.

During my stay, I visited Mia Restaurant & Beach Club where I spent the afternoon relaxing in an oceanfront day bed surrounded by palm trees.

At Aloft Tulum, the guestrooms are designed in a loft style and equipped with comfortable brand-standard beds, glass-walled rainfall showers, and numerous outlets for charging devices, making it easy to relax and unwind at the end of the day. You can also check in through Marriott’s Bonvoy app and get a digital key.

The Location

The hotel is located about two hours away from Cancun International Airport. If guests need help with transportation, the hotel staff can provide assistance and advise on the best departure time to avoid traffic. The cost of parking at the hotel is $12 per day.

To cope with the possibility of planned power outages, the hotel has its own electrical generator. Guests may experience a small clicking sound when the system switches over and slightly reduced air conditioning output as the system conserves energy during these times.

Traveling to 🇲🇽 Mexico soon?

I recommend these travel resources for Mexico that I personally use:

🏨 Hotels: I have found that Expedia and Booking.com consistently have the best deals on hotels and resorts in Mexico. If you prefer to stay at a vacation rental, check VRBO that is usually cheaper than AirBnB’s added fees!

✈️ Flights: To find the best flight deals to Mexico, I always use Kayak. Remember to subscribe to their price alerts for the travel dates you want. Another great alternative for flight deals is Expedia.

🚗 Rental Cars: I always use and highly recommend Discover Cars because it allows me to compare several car rental companies and view ratings on various factors such as overall value, pick-up procedure, agent efficiency, car condition, and total time taken.

🚙 Cancun Airport Transportation: For the fastest and easiest way to travel, I suggest arranging a private transfer with Cancun Airport Transportation. Honestly, no better way to travel from the airport to your hotel or resort.

🤿 Tours & Activities: For tours and activities in Mexico, I highly recommend using either Viator or GetYourGuide. These websites offer a full refund if you cancel your booking 24 hours before the start of the tour, and they also provide excellent customer service in case of any issues.

🚨 Travel Insurance: I always suggest purchasing travel insurance as a precaution before traveling, especially after a recent accident in a taxi in Mexico. For short trips, I recommend Travel Insurance Master, whereas for digital nomads, Safety Wing is a better option.

📷 Best Camera for your trip: I always carry with me a GoPro, It’s light, compact, takes great video and pictures, and most importantly, it’s waterproof! You just can’t go wrong with one. If you are interested in higher quality video and photography, I always carry with me on my trips and highly recommend the Sony A7IV which I think is the best travel DSLR Camera out there.

☀️ Biodegradable Sunscreen: Remember to include a good sunscreen to protect yourself from the summer sun. I always use and suggest Sun Bum Sunscreen, which is vegan, reef-friendly, and cruelty-free.
